FLOURISH: Brass & Canvas Originals

FLOURISH: Brass & Canvas Originals

Alongside the FLOURISH works on paper, we wanted to take the same hand cut stencil and see what happened when we changed the surface completely.

We created a very small number of original works across brass and canvas. The starting point is the same, but the materials have taken the image in two quite different directions.

On brass, the work has a much more raw and tactile quality. The surface itself becomes part of the image, with areas of exposed metal, paint and texture shifting as the light moves across it. It gives FLOURISH a weight and physicality that feels very different from the works on paper.

The canvas originals gave us room to work more freely with paint. Softer, more expressive backgrounds sit behind the precision of the hand cut stencil, bringing together two sides of our process that we have been exploring more and more within the studio.

Both versions were made using the same stencil that took five weeks to cut by hand, but neither was approached in quite the same way. That's something we enjoy about taking an image across different materials. The stencil gives us the structure, but the surface changes how the finished work develops.

Only a very small number of the brass and canvas originals have been made as part of the FLOURISH release.

These works are available directly through us rather than through the online store. For availability, pricing or further images, get in touch with us via Instagram or Facebook, or email hi@snikarts.com.
