Verdant

Hareid, Norway · 2026

Nestled between the sea and the mountains of Norway's west coast, Hareid is a place where nature is ever present. The landscape is not something viewed from afar but something woven into daily life. Homes sit beneath dramatic peaks, weather rolls in from the fjords, and the changing seasons leave their mark across the surrounding hillsides and coastline.

Created for the people of Hareid, Verdant explores the connection between community and the natural world. The portrait is intertwined with organic forms and botanical elements, reflecting the idea that people and place shape one another over time. The colour palette was drawn from the local environment, combining deep blues inspired by the nearby sea with softer violet tones found in the heather that grows throughout the landscape. Rather than compete with its surroundings, the mural was designed to sit within them, encouraging viewers to experience the artwork as part of the wider view.

The project was made possible through the vision and support of Kim, whose commitment helped bring the mural to life, and through the warmth and encouragement of the people of Hareid who embraced the project from the very beginning. Throughout the painting process, residents stopped by daily to follow the progress, share stories and offer support, creating a genuine connection between the artwork and the community it now belongs to.

vERDANT was ocumented by photographer Ian Cox / Wallkandy, whose imagery captures both the scale of the finished mural and the process behind its creation. Through photography and aerial documentation, Ian recorded the journey from blank wall to completed work, preserving not only the artwork itself but also the atmosphere, landscape and people that helped shape it.
